DANIEL "DAN" EICHELBERGER, DVM, MS

(Dr. E if you're pressed for time.)

Doctor Eichelberger grew up on a farm in Bedford County, Virginia, and attended public school in Roanoke, Virginia, where his parents owned a small animal veterinary practice. After graduating from Patrick Henry High School, he attended University of Virginia and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering. Dr. E subsequently enrolled in the College of Public Health at The Ohio State University to study epidemiology and biostatistics with emphases on molecular typing methods for infectious disease pathogens and statistical modeling. He returned to Virginia in 2014 where he attended the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. After earning his DVM and graduating in 2023, Dr. E practiced mixed animal medicine (small and large animals) at Bedford Animal Hospital until becoming the clinic veterinarian at the Rockbridge SPCA.

Dr. Eichelberger and his wife, Zoe, live in Botetourt with their two children, one dog, and two cats. They enjoy kayaking on the James River, camping, going to concerts, and spending time with family and friends. Dan and Zoe have deep ties to Lexington and Rockbridge where they met while working at Southern Inn, enjoyed shows at Lime Kiln Theater, swam in the river at Goshen Pass, and were later married on a local farm.

The purpose of the clinic is to provide affordable spay + neuter surgeries and essential wellness services to at least 5,000 pets each year. The facility features a welcoming, functional space with a comfortable lobby, exam room, surgical prep and treatment areas, recovery space, and a fully equipped surgical suite—all designed with accessibility in mind. Serving both community pets and animals in the care of the Rockbridge SPCA, this clinic expands access to quality veterinary care where it's needed most. With renovations and new construction at the SPCA's former rental property, we are proud to open a state-of-the-art clinic in May 2026.
